How to Beat Slimy Salespeople at Their Own Game: 3 Simple Tactics

As a professional sales trainer, I hate slimy salespeople, probably even more than you do. I want to make sure you only buy from honest, qualified salespeople. 

That’s why I’ve developed these Three Simple Tactics to Beat Slimy Salespeople at Their Own Game. 

You’re Always in Control!

First and foremost, you must remember that you’re always in control of the sale. You have what they want– The money. All they have is a product which you can probably get at a dozen other places. 

So when slimy salespeople put any kind of pressure on you, just threaten to walk away and watch how quickly they back off.

Tactic One: Beating The Limited Time Offer. 

Slimy Salespeople will tell you that if you want the best deal, you have to buy their product right now before the special offer expires. NEVER TRUE!

Never buy anything under pressure. Instead, say this: “If you really want my business, you’ll give me the deal when I’m ready to buy.” 

They may complain but don’t budge. You’ll be amazed at how all of a sudden- some magical manager agrees to give you all the time you need. 

Remember. You’re in control of every sale, especially when it comes to the limited-time offer.

Tactic Two: Beating The Fear of Missing Out.

A Slimy Salesperson will tell you they’re almost out of stock, they only have one left, or if you don’t buy it now or it’ll be gone forever. NEVER TRUE!

Never- get so attached you can’t just walk away. Instead, say this, “It’s okay if I don’t get it now. I’ll buy it later or from someone else.” 

Suddenly, it’s a miracle. An entire shipment will show up at the warehouse. Now there is plenty in stock, so you don’t have to worry. 

Remember, you’re in control of every sale, especially when it comes to the fear of missing out.

Tactic Three: Beating The Guilt Trip.

Slimy Salespeople LOVE to make you feel like you owe them. They’ll tell you how hard that worked to get you a deal. They’ll tell you that they sacrificed other sales just to help you. NEVER TRUE!. 

A car salesman tried to use this on me once. I looked at him in the eye and said, “It sucks when you have to do your job, doesn’t it?” 

If a slimy salesperson tries to guilt you, just say, “Sorry you feel that way. But you’re going to have to work harder to earn my business.” 

Make them sweat it out. Remember, you’re in control of every sale, especially when it comes to The Guilt Trip.
